The Dragon for Mac
replacement you've been looking for.
Nuance Dragon for Mac was discontinued in 2018. Swift Dictate is the modern alternative — built for current macOS, with AI cleanup and active development.
Dragon for Mac (Nuance) was discontinued in 2018 and does not support macOS 13 Ventura, macOS 14 Sonoma, or Apple Silicon Macs.
Dragon was great. It's gone.
Dragon Professional for Mac was the gold standard for Mac dictation for years. It had excellent accuracy, voice commands, and app-specific integrations. Nuance discontinued it in 2018 when they refocused on enterprise healthcare software (later acquired by Microsoft).
Even if you have an old copy, it won't run on macOS 12 or later, and it has no support for Apple Silicon chips (M1, M2, M3, M4). It's effectively dead software on modern Macs.
What Swift Dictate offers instead
Swift Dictate doesn't try to replicate Dragon's voice command system — that approach is slow and requires significant training. Instead, it focuses on the highest-value use case: push-to-talk dictation with AI cleanup that makes your speech sound like polished writing.
It works on any current Mac with macOS 13+, supports Apple Silicon natively, and starts free. The AI cleanup pass removes filler words and adds punctuation automatically — something Dragon never did.
